During "emerge system" in rc6-r10.tbz2:

>>> Unpacking man-pages-1.43.tar.gz
>>> Unpacking netman-20000610.tgz
tar (child): /usr/portage/distfiles/netman-20000610.tgz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
/usr/sbin/ebuild.sh: die: command not found

but the installation went on and emerge continued.

Hey,

This looks strange. First update portage and look if 'die' will then be
found. Look for a file netman* in /usr/portage/distfiles. Have you a
connection to the internet. All files must be downloaded first. Normally
portage downloads these files itself. Are the md5 of netman* correct? -
it seems so. Normally emerge stop if not. But where is the file...
mhh....

Greetings,

Sebastian

Hello !
i am having some problem when i try to emerge tcl-tk it wants to compile
xfree as well which is not in my USE option.. is this due to a poor ebuild
on tcl-tk ? or is there some other reaseon ? my portage tree is up to date
and my portage is updated as well pls give some hints on how i can fix
this

Best regards Mats

tk need the x-libraries, so for compüiling tk the x-libraries have to be
build ... Maybe the separation of the package in tcl (which does not need
anything from X) and tk (which needs tcl and the X-libraries) could be a
solution ...

I think that that would be a good thing to do. Since tcl is also often
used as embedded language on system that don't necesseraly run X
(database server with postgresql) for example.

I just noted that the downloading of netman had been disabled in the
man-pages-1.43.ebuild:

# Modern netman versions are part of the standard man-pages for Linux
# ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/ak/netman/netman-20000610.tgz"

Still, the src_unpack() function had the

        unpack netman-20000610.tgz

command in there, thus generating the error.

And no, I don't have netman* in /usr/portage/distfiles/ .. I guess it would
have worked if there had been one.

And yes, I updated portage, still giving the same error. Thus, it seems like
the unpack command fails to "die" correctly. In this case it was lucky,
because it seems that netman package is not needed.

> Have you a connection to the internet.

Yes..

So I guess the things to do are:

 - comment out the unpack command for the netman package
 - fix unpack to handle error situations correctly

Good luck!
