Less drastic method found
As root
cd /usr/lib/nsbrowser
mkdir plugins-save
mv plugins/*totem* plugins-save
When finished
mv plugins-save/* plugins
I suspect there is a way inside firefox, but I couldn't find it.
Illumination would be appreciated.
