Hi,

I see gcc-4.1.1 is stable now, are there some instructions
how to upgrade to it? I think it would not be as easy as
"emerge -uDN world"...

There is an official upgrade guide for GCC:

  http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gcc-upgrading.xml

And there is a very informative thread in the forums:

  http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-493662.html

This should get you started ...

Have fun ;-)
Stefan
