Hello,
MY seamonkey browser does not work with flash plugins. Firefox
works fine.
Searching around, I did not find anything that fixes the problem.
Here are my options:
www-client/seamonkey-1.1.1 USE="crypt gnome ipv6 java ldap postgres -debug
-mozdevelop -moznocompose -moznoirc -moznomail -moznopango -moznoroaming -xforms
-xinerama -xprint"
net-www/netscape-flash
Available versions: 7.0.68 9.0.31.0
Installed versions: 9.0.31.0(17:30:20 03/13/07)(-debug)
What did I miss?

Do you have flash plugin mentioned under "about:plugins" page? Also did you
try starting seamonkey from a terminal window to see if it throws any errors
at you?

NO,
I found them, but, I'm not sure how to install a tar.gz file on gentoo,
and have it as part of the regularly maintained files. This is very likely the
problem. I never thoght that something like that would not be part
of the ebuild, as flash just works as part of the firefox ebuild.

I'll give this a whirl and see if any additional errors are given.

It just says:
No running windows found
and everything works as it does launching from the KDE menu system.

That is your real problem. You need to make sure that seamonkey knows about
your flash plugin. Try to make soft link to flash plugin in your
~/.mozilla/plugins directory. Then start seamonkey and check whether you have
flash mentioned under about:plugins now.

OK
this dir contains these:
drwx------ 4 james 152 Apr 23 14:08 .
drwxr-xr-x 26 james 1640 Apr 26 13:46 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 james 1043 Apr 26 09:21 appreg
drwx------ 4 james 136 Apr 26 09:21 default
drwx------ 3 james 144 Apr 23 14:08 firefox
-rw------- 1 james 534 Apr 26 13:40 pluginreg.dat
Now make a symlink from what to what?

I just found this page:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux-amd64.html#nswrapper-install-src
3/4ths the way down the page is says:
Flash Player 9.0 (nspluginwrapper)
Version: 7.0r68
SeaMonkey 1.1a, Firefox 2.0: Works Well
FAQ: Flash Player FAQ
After installing nspluginwrapper, install Flash Player to a location of your
choice (/usr/lib/browser-plugins/ is suggested), then run the following command:
nspluginwrapper -i /usr/lib/browser-plugins/libflashplayer.so
Will this work on Gentoo, as is, or are there further modifications.
I failed to mention, that the system is running on an AMD 64 bit cpu,
model name : AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+

You need to make symlinks to these files in ~/.mozilla/plugins
/opt/netscape/plugins/flashplayer.xpt
/opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so

Didn't see this post of yours earlier. Sorry for the unnecessary noise.
What arch are you running? Is it x86 or amd64? You have installed firefox-bin
or you have compiled firefox yourself?

OK
cd ~/.mozilla/
ln -s /opt/netscape/plugins/flashplayer.xpt .
ln -s /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so .
results in the dir looking like this:
drwx------ 4 james 224 Apr 27 11:30 .
drwxr-xr-x 26 james 1640 Apr 27 11:36 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 james 1043 Apr 27 11:37 appreg
drwx------ 4 james 136 Apr 27 11:37 default
drwx------ 3 james 144 Apr 23 14:08 firefox
lrwxrwxrwx 1 james 37 Apr 27 11:30 flashplayer.xpt ->
/opt/netscape/plugins/flashplayer.xpt
lrwxrwxrwx 1 james 39 Apr 27 11:30 libflashplayer.so ->
/opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so
-rw------- 1 james 534 Apr 27 11:38 pluginreg.dat
Still does not work.
I exited and logged back into KDE....
What did I miss?
I have firefox-bin installed and working but seamonkey
is not the binary version. I wanted to get flash working
on this amd64 system by correctly compiling and setting
up the files.
Perhaps I need to manually download the plugin sources,
put them under /usr/portage/somewhere; edit a few
files and rebuild the sources?
ideas or a wiki would be keen.

In order to use 32 bit plugins (like flash) on 64 bit browsers, you need to
use nspluginwrapper. Look at the following link for firefox and flash 9.
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Flash_9_and_Firefox
Though the link talks about firefox, the method is same for seamonkey.
