It's been made the default driver in Mesa now. So I guess that means
it's considered stable. But for me, both classic and gallium can hang
the machine. At least with Gallium I know how to fix it though:

Identifier "HD4870"
Driver "radeon"
Option "EnablePageFlip" "FALSE"

in an xorg.conf.d file.
