<sigh> I beg pardon for my senility.  I was reminded while reading a different group
to run lsmod.

The salient lines from lsmod:

cdrom                  24970  1 sr_mod

The kernel module sr_mod is selected in the kernel config menu at
"Device Drivers::SCSI device support::SCSI CDROM support"
