[gentoo-user] [OT] Restore visual aspect

	Hi,


    After playing with themes and beryl; I finally decided to let go
of eye candy on my work machine and wanted to switch back to the
visual aspect I had.
    Needless to say it was a painfull experience. Now everything looks
like crap; gtk2 apps that look like gtk1; icon theme is screwed up, etc.
    I tried to remove all visually related files and stuff from my
home dir, but that did not solve the problem.
     What would be the procedure to follow to restore the original
looks of the desktop environment ?

Which desktop environment are you using?

XFCE, GNOME, KDE; 99% XFCE

all are screwed up.

Did you changed the xorg.conf file ?

Did you trace and backup the changes you did ?

What do you mean by "remove all visually related files"
in your home directory ?
You deleted .gconf and .kde ?

Did you uninstall gtk2 ?

I think thats few questions that may help others to help you better.

   I even created a new user and fired XFCE fresh with that one,
and still got ugly interface.

No! because I played many times with X and it never gave me such things;
I doubt it's X anyway.

Hello,

Well I can not really see whats wrong.
I just guess you should try to reinstall your gtk librairies like :
x11-libs/gtk+

Have you tried a lightweight window manager like blackbox ?
and then tried to run gnome apps from an xterm and see what
happens (error messages, look&feel...)
