I will be sometimes just browsing the Internet like normal using my
Squid and Privoxy proxy on another machine and it all the sudden
Firefox will just close without any warning at all.

Are you running the latest 1.0... release of Firefox? I had problems
with earlier versions of Firefox, but none on the current release.
Also, how up to date with maintenance (glibc, gcc, gtk+, etc.) are
you?

Additional thought. If you have upgraded recently without rebuilding
your profile, you might try copying your bookmarks
(~/.mozilla/firefox/?????/bookmarks.html) somewhere safe, and then cd
.mozilla; rm -r firefox. ????? above will be a different directory
name on any system. The restart firefox, shutdown again, and copy back
your bookmarks to ~/.mozilla/firefox/?????/bookmarks.html (this will
be a different directory name that the original one).
