Hi All,
It has been mentioned in this list and elsewhere that toggling
network.prefetch-next to false in the about:config should do just that. I
was just looking at my netstat output as soon as I fired FF and guess what
I saw!
There was also a connection to 212.58.226.19 which is one of the IP's for
BBC online news and just as it happens that was the second next address in
FF's dropdown address bar.
This happens despite having toggled the network.prefetch-next to false. Is
there anything else I can toggle for this setting to work as it is supposed
to?

Have you restarted Firefox since you changed the setting? Any such
changes won't take effect until the program is closed and re-opened.
If you had restarted after changing the setting, then I don't know what
to tell you :-( .
Except maybe check MozillaZine's forums at

Yes, of course I have. Quite a large number of times . . . and also checked
it at least three times to make sure that it hasn't reverted to 'true' on
its own. ;-)

Thanks for the link. I had a look but couldn't find anything. Does your
netstat results reveal prefetching taking place despite it being disabled
in the FF configuration?
Has anyone else perhaps noticed such a behaviour?
