I once had the same problem
you can do this, hope that it could help you out
enable dri with Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device to
solve beryl's white screen problem
1. enable dri USE flags
2. Device Drivers --->
Character devices --->
* /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
* Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support
M Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
M Intel 830M, 845G, 852GM, 855GM, 865G
M i915 driver
3. echo "drm" >> /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
echo "i915" >> /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6
