Just for the sake of curiosity ...
Have you tried to compile with this
CPPFLAGS="-D_GLIBCXX_USE_CXX11_ABI=1"
added to make.conf ?
The reason for this question ... I have noticed that some"packages" try
to either use or be compatible with both c++11 specs ( old way / new way ).
