A small Linksys WRT54-GL flashed with DD-WRT makes a sweet little firewall for home use. :-) Very low power consumption, the wireless can be turned off(kinda) if you have no need of it and it's very configurable once reflashed. Make sure you get the GL model though as the other models are pretty much limited to stock firmware and later revisions were neutered to an extent.
