Is a Celeron D Process 310, 2.13 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 256 KB L2 Cache
considered an x86,  i586 or i686 in terms of the stage 3 tarballs.
Which is best for that type of chip?

That's P4-based, so it's a i686.

i686 if you want a 32-bit system, x86_64 if you want a 64-bit system.
