I wanted to use KNetworkManager, so I switched from iwconfig to
wpa_supplicant and now I can't connect to anything outside my local network.
I don't know whether it's KNM's, NM's or wpa_supplicant's fault, and I have
no idear how to find out...
To get KNM working I did something like this (might have forgot something):
Made my kernel (linux-2.6.18-gentoo-r4) look like this:
Networking --->
<*> Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack
[*] Enable full debugging output
<*> IEEE 802.11 WEP encryption (802.1x)
<*> IEEE 802.11i CCMP support
<*> IEEE 802.11i TKIP encryption
<M> Software MAC add-on to the IEEE 802.11 networking stack
[*] Enable full debugging output
and then:
echo "net-misc/dhcdbd" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge dhcdbd dev-libs/dbus-qt3-old sys-libs/libunwind -av
ebuild /usr/portage/net-misc/dhcdbd/dhcdbd-1.14-r1.ebuild merge
ebuild /usr/portage/dev-libs/libnl/libnl-1.0_pre6.ebuild merge
ebuild /usr/portage/net-misc/dhcdbd/dhcdbd-1.14-r1.ebuild merge
ebuild /usr/portage/portage/net-misc/networkmanager-
0.6.4_pre20061028-r1.ebuild merge
rc-update add NetworkManager default
rc-update add dhcdbd default
cd /
wget
http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian/pool/main/k/knetworkmanager/network-manager-kde_0.1-4_i386.deb
// dpkg complains alot so i unpack myself
ar x network-manager-kde_0.1-4_i386.deb
tar -xvpf data.tar.gz
knetworkmanager
And knetworkmanager started. Now it's not able to connect to any of my
wireless networks, although it lists everyone around here. And when it
connects to a wired network I can't break out of my local network. Besides
that, wired works if I do "dhcpcd eth0".
Any ideas on how to find out what's wrong?
and btw:
# lspci | grep -i network
14:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network
Connection (rev 05)
Hope this isn't a too stupid question to ask.
