Well, if you can lower your requirements a little to include 2D games
then there are quite a few interesting games:

2D:
1. Freedroid
2. Frozen Bubble
3. Rocks n' diamonds
4. XMoto
... of course there are a few that contain "indirect" violence like
freeciv, battle for wesnoth, etc.

Freecol is a great game that is in Portage and can provide for hours of entertainment - it's a Java-based clone of Sid Meier's Colonization, one of the best turn-based strategy games ever. Might be a little much for a 7-year old, but might not be, either. ;)
