Hello everybody
On one of my disks, I have a Gentoo installation where, for testing, I
switched to binary packages :
emerge -auvDN --getbinpkgonly --with-bdeps=y --binpkg-respect-use=y
--keep-going world.
Now, with every emerge world, I am being asked to compile and reinstall the
same binaries again.
[binary R ] dev-lang/spidermonkey-115.16.0-r1-16:115::gentoo USE="jit
-clang -debug -lto -test" LLVM_SLOT="18" 0 KiB
[binary R ] sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-6.12.16-1:6.12.16::gentoo
USE="-build -experimental -symlink" 0 KiB
Where could this be coming from? Thank you for your responses.
Regards,
--
Jacques

I would try adding the -t option. See if that gives you any clues.
Since no one else has any ideas, it would be what I would try.
Hope that helps.

Hi,

Please post the command your are using, and also the whole output from
emerge. Adding the --tree option to the emerge command could also be
useful.

If I'm reading this right, sometimes my emerge output decryption tool
doesn't work well, I'd look into dev-util/spirv-headers and see what it
has going on. I'd run the following.
equery list -p dev-util/spirv-headers
That should list all versions of the package. See if something is
masked/keyworded either by the devs or by you. It could be that it
really needs a newer version that is masked or that a newer version is
unmasked and shouldn't be because of other packages it depends on. You
may be able to figure that out yourself but if not, post what it says.
Someone else with a better decryption thought process may have a better
idea.

Hello,
It's a real mess.
Some day, it's ok, another day 160 sourced packages to compile and so on...
So i give up and go back to my classical mixed sources/binary Gentoo
packages.
May be it could work with Gentoo installation from scratch... Don't know.
Nevertheless, thank you for trying to help me.
Cheers,

[Apologies if this amounts to hijacking the thread...]
The other day portage wanted to upgrade quite a number of packages: some from
source and some from Gentoo binpkgs. Rather than laboriously picking out just
the binpkgs by hand, I told portage to upgrade -K. It wanted to update 246
packages!
It seems that, if a more recent package exists, it will be remerged willy-
nilly, whether it's a real upgrade or not.
I hope portage isn't meant to work this way...

Regards,
Peter.
