shotwell keeps crashing when I import photos with "Copy Photos" as
opposed to "Import in Place". I've been over this thoroughly with the
shotwell list and they've come to these conclusions:
"There may be something about the configuration mapper on your machine
that is just broken."
"the problem occurred deep inside of the GSettings-to-GConf mapper
(gconfsettingsbackend)"
"ask the Gentoo packagers why they're using a GSettings-to-GConf
mapper, because GSettings is designed as an evolution over GConf and
should have no relation to it whatsoever"
Can anyone shed any light on any of this? Should I file a Gentoo bug?

I don't know if this is related or not, but GNOME seems to be in the
middle of migrating away from Gconf to Gsettings. In plain English,
Gconf is being deprecated, and may not be supported in your case.
I ran into a problem with the GNUMERIC spreadsheet. A couple of
additional toolbars appeared, and the bottoms of my graphs are now
pushed off the bottom of the screen. Does anybody know what I have to
do to *PERMANENTLY* hide the additional toolbars? I can hide them
manually, but they reappear next time I start GNUMERIC. I can't find
any options in any of the menus to do this permanently. Is there a file
I can edit somewhere?

That's exactly the problem. Gentoo seems to be using a
GSettings-to-GConf mapper when they should be using GSettings
directly. Does anyone know what is happening in this area of Gentoo?

I was going to file a bug for GNUMERIC. But I decided to send an
email to the Gentoo dev list. There are already a similar bugs for
other applications...

...and it looks like it'll affect virtually every GNOME-related app.
This is going to have to be handled at a higher level than whack-a-mole

right place. The solution seems to be keywording a bunch of ~arch

I don't know if my solution will be your solution. As per my sig, I
don't run the fullblown GNOME DE. I use ICEWM. I happen to run a few
GNOME apps (ABIWORD/GIMP/GNUMERIC). According to Alexandre...

Apparently the migration happened a long time ago with GNOME 3.x,
but those of us using stable Gentoo are still in the dark ages. From
the dev list...

He's right. "emerge -pv gnome" tries to build version 2.32.
