You can still do things the "now" way, but only because current EFI systems
provide either a BIOS compatibility interface (e.g., emulate the BIOS) or
have an actual BIOS that it loads before executing a system that requires
it.
You should move to GPT, though, since you then get unlimited (practically
speaking) partitions and support for media larger than 2TB. But, keep your
old system around, in case you need to roll back to it. Buggy EFI
implementations are still somewhat common.

I am upgrading to a UEFI motherboard from a BIOS/MBR combination.
fx-8350 with 990 asus board.
When I upgrade I believe you have to make changes to kernel to
recognise UEFI.
Can I still use MBR or do I have to switch to GPT?
Also using grub2.
Are there any other pitfalls or advice the Gentoo thinktank can
suggest?
