Howdy,

I upgraded to the latest KDE a bit ago. =C2=A0I update about twice a week,<= br> depending on what is going on and what is released. =C2=A0Anyway, KDE has become just dead dog slow. =C2=A0Just to login takes a couple minutes. =C2= =A0If I
click to open a KDE app, it takes a long time. =C2=A0If I click on the
kicker/panel thingy at the bottom, it takes forever, even clicking on
the K menu takes a minute or more for the menu to pop up. =C2=A0Also, when = it
freezes, the clock stops as well. =C2=A0It seems something is hung up or something. =C2=A0I also noticed that klipper is missing as is kmix for the<= br> volume control in the kicker/panel thingy at the bottom. =C2=A0If I try to<= br> manually start them, I get nothing even if I wait for a good long
while. =C2=A0Also, while in a Konsole, within KDE so note the K there, if I=
try to copy/paste something, it locks up Konsole tight as a drum. =C2=A0It<= br> has yet to ever come back. =C2=A0I can't even switch tabs. =C2=A0Also, = while I
generally click on the panel at the bottom to switch desktops, this
doesn't work when it is froze or stuck. =C2=A0I can however use the fun= ction
keys to switch.

When I login, the hard drive activity light on the case is very quiet.
It is normally on solidly when I login since it is reading data but now
it is pretty much dark all the time.

What I have done so far. =C2=A0Renamed .kde4 and tried a new .kde4
directory. =C2=A0No change. =C2=A0I did a emerge -e world with, no change. = =C2=A0I have
also checked the CPU and memory with htop and it shows nothing outside
the norm that I can see. =C2=A0I have also went to the boot runlevel. kille= d
anything that shouldn't be there and then went back to default runlevel= .

This started yesterday. =C2=A0I did my usual update and logged out and back=
in since checkrestart showed several programs using old configs/programs etc. =C2=A0After that, it got real slow. =C2=A0The biggest update was qt an= d all
its friends. =C2=A0Sort of hard to tell right now since I can't get Kon= sole
to work right and I can't copy and paste either. lol

I was going to try to downgrade KDE to the previous version, it appears
to be gone now. =C2=A0I guess my only other option is to upgrade again with= a
version from a overlay. This is not something I want to do tho.

Has anyone else ran into this? =C2=A0Anyone got any ideas on how to track i= t
down? =C2=A0It's going to be a week before another upgrade and this is<= br> getting on my nerves. =C2=A0;-)

Thanks.

Dale

Hello,

When i saw your message,= it was something of a relief, I=20 was even thinking about a hardware problem, sometimes it freezes for so=20 long and so much it even doesn't allow me to switch to one of the=20 consoles. Sometimes I could not wait, and just reset the computer.

N= ow I know it might be something else besides hardware (I have run Memtest+ = for more than 24h and nothing showed up).
