Hello,

Background.
One thing that intrigues me is that one storage
server can intellegently store files from a variety
of hardware devices. I like this concept, but, many
of my devices are not common retail systems. Nor
do I like the idea of my file being on a server
under the control of others.....

So I first need to use something like "owncloud"
and build a single server at a one location? Then
I need to build another server at a diffent location.
2 or 3 physically differnt locations should work
for my needs, for now. The File System to choose
for this is an area where input from others is
important.

Suggests as to which packages(programs) to use
would be of keen interest to me. Surely the iphone,
Android and other devices are available are straightforward?

Also, I want to be able to included various embedded
products built by others, including firmware, bootloaders,
logs, sources etc, as well as embedded devices I've had
a hand in building. So a flexible framework to
add unique (uncommon) hardware to this mix would
be a critical need for this effort. I'm researching ideas
and codes, so anything that pops into your mind
would be of interest to me.

James

If you are basically looking for "run my own dropbox" then I think
owncloud should work for you. I think mobile clients and replication
to multiple servers are additional features that cost money, not
included in the free version.

Yes with the ability to add features to the framework as needed....

This app. area is new to me. What you have stated is what I have
sparsely gleened from reading about these offerings. So
I guess there is not robust, 100% open solution yet for roll
your own cloud (multisite) storage for the myria of connected
devices?

Or is there, and I just have not found it yet?
I'm a little leary of running upon source from a vendor
that sells or rents the really cool modules to you, for this
sort of critical need.

Other ideas or comments?

James
