The hdparm optimizations, the CFQ scheduler and maybe low latency
desktop in the kernel are the best way to make your desktop useable
under heavy disk usage.These are my hdparm settings:
/dev/hda:
multcount = 16 (on)
IO_support = 1 (32-bit)
unmaskirq = 1 (on)
using_dma = 1 (on)
keepsettings = 0 (off)
readonly = 0 (off)
readahead = 256 (on)
geometry = 26310/16/63, sectors = 26520480, start = 0
cat /sys/block/hda/queue/scheduler
noop [cfq]
