here's the output of "strings"

strings /boot/vmlinuz | grep 2.6
2.6.20-gentoo (root@delta9) #2 SMP PREEMPT Tue Feb 6 14:09:46 UTC 2007

I didn't check the kernel tree against my files because I'm not really 
sure how to do that :-)
