Remember eth0:1 is an alias for eth0.

Your above info is slightly wrong in that eth0 should be listed as eth0:0; where 
instead ifconfig is showing eth0 generic information and eth0:0 information 
combined.
That's probably the source of your confusion.

Don't know how to remedy it though.
