[gentoo-user] Make krusader default file manager

hello there i'm trying to make krusader my default file manager...so when
i'm double-clicking on a directory it should be opened by Krusader...i try
to set it up correctly in kcontrol->kde components->file
associations->inode->directory and choose Krusader in the application
preference box but when i double-click on a folder it pops up an error
message saying "kdeinit could not launch '/usr/bin/krusader'...could someone
tell me how to make krusader the default file manager?? thanks...

yes that didn't help...any other ways of showing you some info on what
might be wrong in order to solve this??

Seems like you were successful making krusader the default. It also seems that 
krusader is broken. I suggest trying to start `krusader` directly from a 
terminal (konsole or whatever) to see if there is something useful in an 
error message. 

Perhaps you need to run revdep-rebuild...
Or just `emerge krusader`.

well "revdep-rebuild -p" gives no errors...i still reemerged krusader with
the
useflag "debug" and when i run it from konsole it gives the following output
"jrn23@ ~ > krusader
krusader: Initialisising useractions...
krusader: 10 useractions read."
still when i try to open a directory from the desktop it gives me the same
error
"kdeinit could not launch '/usr/bin/krusader' "...something else i could
do??

Have you looked at the access rights/ownership of /usr/bin/krusader just in 
case there's a fs corruption or something else amiss?

So it would appear that krusader doesn't start like a regular file 
manager, and 'krusader %U' won't work.

Dunno why it won't launch from your terminal though, it does fine here 
on mine. As a last grasp at straws, what's your output from 

ldd /usr/bin/krusader

i don't know how you got the impression that it won't start from my
terminal...i don't believe
i said something like that...it starts just fine issuing 'krussader' at
konsole...however
'krusader /home/jrn23' gives me the same error you posted...

you did the trick...i tried something and it worked...in "file
associations->
inode-directory" i put krusader as the default application but using the
following command " '/usr/bin/krusader' --left %u --right
/home/jrn23/Desktop "
and now it opens every directory i double-click on...i wouldn't have noticed
it

Ah, OK. I understood (assumed?) that when you posted this output:

"jrn23@ ~ > krusader
krusader: Initialisising useractions...
 krusader: 10 useractions read."

that the command failed. I don't get any terminal output at all here 
when I run it like that. I see from your other post that it's all fixed 
now.

Looking back, it's actually kinda obvious now why it was failing. 
Hindsight - it's an exact science :-)
