I think the symlinks shouldn't get affected by the tar+ssh transfer. There is some tar option that preserves stuff. Take a look at man tar. I use tar to do regular backups of my complete system and restored it at least one time without problems. When I am back home I can look up the command I use. -- Regards, Daniel
