I also get the same xrandr output. Maybe it is not a problem with the ati or nvidia drivers. I also thought this must be a bug in xorg-server, as it happened after upgrading to version 1.3. I masked to xorg-server-1.3 and downgraded to xorg-server-1.2 which fixes ths problem for me. This is just a temporary solution.
