Thanks for the reposnses guys! GMail does do a virus check and doesn't
see anything so probably it isn't that problem. Also I fired up my Mac
Mini as well as my last Win XP machine. Neither of them can display
the files so most likely they are hosed somehow.
I emerged macutil and see these executables get installed:

binhex tells me it's not a Mac binary. frommac just hangs and I have to kill it.

It seems that the macutil app binhex would have been a reasonable
choice but it doesn't seem to work.
Any more ideas?
