Hi all,
I've just done an "eix-sync" followed by an "emerge -NuD world" and
besides from gwenview not wanting to build, things appeared to go well.
I've rebooted and now noticed that the task bar, or whatever it's
called, now doesn't want to autohide. If I go to the rhs and click on
the three little horizontal stripes, I get, amongst other things, the
option for "More settings". Selecting this gives a dialigue/panel that
lists the visibility options.

Even though I have "Autohide" selected, the thingy won't autohide. This
is a real pain as I have the task bar running across the top of the
screen and not autohiding means that it sits over the title bar of apps
that are full screen. Due to this I can't change the position or size of
the apps windows. I've moved the task bar to the bottom of the screen
and the behaviour persists, not autohiding.

Has anyone else come across this problem and fixed it or got any idea
as to how I can fix it?

	Regards,
		Andrew

It's bugging me too. For me, setting it to 'Always Visible' then back
to 'Auto Hide' cures it temporarily. I've now turned off taskbar
notifications (System Settings » Applications » Launch Feedback) and
that seems to have fixed things, but it hasn't been long enough for me
to be sure.

autohide works correctly here, so to track this down we'd need to find
out how my setup differs from you two fellows

First and foremost would be "Where does the task bar store it's config
values such as Alignment and Visibility"? I've had a look in ~/.kde4 and
~/.config and can't find anything - then again it is currently 02:34 in
Perth, Australia and waaay past my bedtime so I may have missed something.

It works correctly on my desktop all the time. On my laptop it
occasionally stops working, but changing the setting to something else
and back again fixes it. This happens so infrequently that I haven't felt
the need to investigate possible causes.

Following on from this spot, changing the "Visibility" from "Always
Visible" to "Autohide" to "Windows Can Cover" to "Windows Go Below" sees
the variable

	[PlasmaViews][Panel 1][Horizontal1680] -> panelVisibility

change from 0 to 3 depending upon the option chosen, 0 being "Always
Visible" and so on. In my case, my screen is 1680 wide, hence the label
name. It should be noted that this is not an instantaneous change, the
file appears to be rewritten periodically, every 30sec/1min or so.

The question now becomes, the variable is being changed but why doesn't
the Task Bar respect the change? Time to write a bug report?

	Andrew
