My guess is that you have a permissions problem with your DVD device 
(/dev/hdc). Check the permissions there. Mine looks like this: brw-rw---- 1 
root disk 22, 0 Mar 10 12:47 hdc

If that is your case just `gpasswd -a <yourusername> disk` and you should be 
good to go. Don't bother trying to change the permissions on hdc since they 
will be reverted back when you next reboot.
