Did you do a deep update before doing all of this? I've only been running Gentoo for a couple of years, so sorry for asking all these questions. Most of the time a build fails on my machine it's because I've done something really, really stupid, so just don't want to make the mistake of diving in way too deep and then figuring out it was a simple issue.
