Classic syslogging is not legacy. It is current. The systemd method is not the new thing that replaces and deprecates the old thing, it is merely a new (and unproven) kid on the block. "Legacy" in the context of logging can only really mean the old syslogger protocol as implemented by syslogd. It has no standard behind it and is correctly described as "whatever syslogd does", whereas there is a new syslogging protocol, with an RFC.
