Hi,
I just emerged the newest version of Apache2. At the
end of install, it didn't tell me to do anything.
So I tried running "apache2ctl start", but the server
didn't start.
Am I supposed to change some config file just to get
it up and running?
Bill

Hi Bill,
I am using the latest version of apache2 and it works fine.
I start it with /etc/init.d/apache2 start
I havn't tried apachectl.
The config files are all in /etc/apache2/conf
I recommend at least looking at the apache2.conf file in this directory.
Also make sure you have updated you configuration files with
etc-update or dispatch-conf.
Cheers,
Neil.

All of your question are all easily answered in the gentoo handbook.
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?full=1#book_part2_chap4
For starting apache type this as root
/etc/init.d/apache2 start
Read the url I gave you for more info. All you need is there.
Regards,
Jean-Francois
