Hello all,

Thanks for all the tips!
I got it going with: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?p=266552

Combination of mingetty with autologin.
My ~/.profile script then starts X with
.xinitrc containing 'xbmc --standalone'

Works like a charm,
