My KDE wouldn't start either. Actually, kdm wouldn't start. Sort of have to have one to get to the other. I didn't like the idea of not having my GUI either. :-( I didn't run lafilefixer on mine but all my packages compiled on the first try. I had 45 or so to compile on here. Weird.
