The idea came to search where the config file of gedit is on my desktop computer. I made a locate gedit and I found within other files /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/gedit.mo I saw that gedit.mo is a binary file. With an usb key I put it in /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES of my laptop where it wasn't. And it worked :-) I made a second try with xfdesktop.mo, and it succeeded also. Now I have to do the same thing for the other packages. I'm surprised that the video projector could change the language in many files. Thanks for your help Roger
