Are you getting squashfs errors? Try intercepting the login screen and changing to a different desktop. In my case with the multilib livecd on two multicore PCs, one Intel, and one AMD, there seemed to be some interaction between KDE4 and squashfs. Gnome, Xfe, and I assume others, work fine.
