For some reason I cannot mount a data dvd I just burnt with k3b.
When I click on it in Konqueror it comes up with:
"Could not enter folder /media/project part 1"
However, under File Type Konqueror shows "Mounted DVD". This is what is
listed:
d--------- 2 michael root 300 Nov 6 21:24 project part 1
Would this be an error I made with k3b? I selected default settings except
for udf, because one of the files within this dvd is larger than 2G.

I ran into this a while back and it is a common thing. I'm not sure
what causes it but it comes down to a permissions problem. If you
search the forums, I think I have a thread on there about this. My
username there is dalek. You can also search the archives for the
problem too. I think I started the thread and it was a little lengthy.
If you can't find the solution there, let me know and I'll search
through my old emails. May take me a bit since I got almost 30,000
emails from this list alone. o_O
You're not alone tho.

This is a bug that has been fixed in August. Upgrade to a newer version
of cdrtools.

Thanks Dale(k),
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-635825-highlight-dvd.html
It seems that this is a udf problem afflicting data dvds only. Mounting it
manually with an entry in fstab as iso9660 works. I will also try burning
another dvd later with a as iso level 3 and see if that works.

Thanks Jörg, I am running the latest stable version 2.01.01_alpha51, which is
dated 11/06/08. Should I unmask 2.01.01_alpha52, or 2.01.01_alpha53?

Yep, that was what I did to fix that. Sorry I couldn't recall what it
was but I sort of been through a lot since then. Got some meds from my
Dr and they almost put me six feet under. Some things are . . . hazy at
best.
I think there is a file size limit too. I think it is 4Gb or
something. I know my backup program is set to 3900Mb for some reason. o_O
Since this has been fixed with a newer cdrtools, I suggest
keywording/unmasking it and giving it a shot. They usually release
stable packages and it is not a system critical package either. I know
I am getting cdrtools-2.01.01_alpha52 as we speak.

Yes with 2.01.01_alpha51, even when I select iso level 3. I haven't
tried the two ~x86 versions yet.
PS. Interestingly, the dvds can be mounted/opened fine in MSWindows.
I assume they use iso9660 to mount them by default.

There was a bug report in August and the problem has been fixed on August 14th
with 2.01.01a47.
How do you repeat the problem?

I am not sitting infront of the machine in question, but from memory
the basic steps involve:
1. Open k3b and create a data DVD project with at least one file
greater than 2G. Total size of files that I tried this with was
between 3.8G and 4.1G.*
2. Click on 'burn' and either tick UDF structure under the filesystem
tab, or (also?) tick iso level 3 under Custom settings.
3. Burn.
4. I noticed that the DVD drive will open the tray when the burning is
complete, but it will not close it again to verify the written files.
In that sense I have to cancel the project to be able to close k3b.
Thereafter, I can mount the DVD and read the files on it, as long as I
specify iso9960 fs in /etc/fstab. Trying to mount it either with
auto, or removing the entry in fstab altogether and relying on
dbus/hald results in 0000 access rights for all the files on the
mounted DVD.
* There's something deeply dissatisfying with creating coasters
instead of successfully burning CDs/DVDs so I have only tried this
twice so far. ;-)
HTH.

Not sure if this is a problem with your package but I still can't get a
file larger than 4Gb to work. Less than 4Gb works tho. May be
something I am doing tho.

This is not a problem with cdrtools as cdrtools support files up to 8 TB
in ISO-9660 and UDF.

Sorry Jörg, I have a niggling suspicion that the cdrtools on the
machine in question may indeed be older than 2.01.01-a47, which will
of course explain the problem. Looking after more than one PC at
various states of updates has me confused. Will check it when I can
access the particular box next time and confirm.

You need of course to remember tht you need "-iso-level 3" or above to allow
files larger than 4 GB.

Hey, thanks much. That works VERY well. It even works when it is
mounted automatically by KDE. No more manual mounting for it to work.
