Daniel Veiga had the same issue and contacted me with the solution. My kernel was perfectly right. The solution is to add: rootwait rootdelay=3D10 in the kernel line. Gentoo is now running flawlessly! I intend to post here my mad ideas about compiling and installing the rest of the packages (mainly graphical stuff).
