Running `lsmod | grep pcspkr` should show if the module is=20 loaded, which is what I suspect you have already verified. udev system=20 may load the pcspkr module automatically (if it's not user-blacklisted)=20 or it could be loaded automatically through system configuration. > , but I don't get any beeps either in the text console nor in X. Does anyone know how I can get this=20 > working again? > Thanks, > Peter You can try installing the app-misc/beep program which sends a beep to=20 your PC speaker when you call the application `beep` (read the manpage=20 for all sorts of fun you can have with the pitch and length of the beep=20 - I've even sent strings of Morse Code with it.) This should tell you=20 if the problem is a console setting or an issue with the kernel module=20 or the hardware. I'll also note that different X consoles handle the=20 beep differently. For example, the Xfce terminal (simply called=20 "Terminal") won't issue a beep when I backspace at a prompt while=20 "xterm" will. All of my tty consoles will beep with the pcspkr module=20 loaded, and I'm running the Gentoo standard agetty with a linux terminal = emulation type for reference. --=20 Josh --------------enig3096E3ECCF9DCCFCB06DAFD2 Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkh9h7sACgkQHSSgJy5aUSdEjwCdFKex6NWxgalUIGw++dx3oeFi rnsAnig3R8OydthwX/tqs/2Q5aEj5M9e =eN8t -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig3096E3ECCF9DCCFCB06DAFD2-- -- gentoo-user@lists.gentoo.org mailing list
