I must be one of the 'crazy' ones.  I run LVM2 for / under linux RAID. 
Even /boot is on a RAID1.  I use genkernel for the proper initramfs. 
You just need to use "dolvm2" and "lvmraid=/dev/mdX ..." on your boot line.
