This is the USE settings for mine here. Looks the same except I enabled
rar which should only help the situation.
root@Gentoo-1 / # equery u app-arch/p7zip
[ Legend : U - final flag setting for installation]
[ : I - package is installed with flag ]
[ Colors : set, unset ]
* Found these USE flags for app-arch/p7zip-16.02-r8:
U I
+ + kde : Add support for software made by KDE, a free software
community
+ + rar : Enable support for non-free rar decoder
+ + wxwidgets : Add support for wxWidgets/wxGTK GUI toolkit
root@Gentoo-1 / #
In the Context Menu settings, I've enabled everything that even looks
like a extraction tool. It mostly refers to 7z. If I right click on
the rar file, there is no Actions option at all. Just for giggles, I
checked the USE flags for other tools installed, everything need enabled
or they don't have USE flags.
I'm thinking I used this a couple times on the new rig shortly after the
switch. I can't be 100% sure tho. Given the packages I have installed,
I can't see why it shouldn't just work. May boot old rig and see if it
shows up there. Only thing is, while I had it booted several days ago,
I updated it. If a update broke this, it will be will broke there too.
I might add tho, I also can't find those tools in the KDE app menu.
When I search for 7, no results. Same for the litter z except for Zulu
encryption stuff. It's like emerge says they installed but KDE doesn't
see them, or something.
I thought maybe I had a setting wrong or a missing package. Those are
easy enough to fix, if one can find where to fix them. ;-)
I'll try to check old rig later.

P. S. My main monitor has been winking at me. Every once in a while it
would blink off and back on again. It would show up as if the computer
had just powered up. It would show the connection and such for a few
seconds. Sort of like it does if I disconnect it and reconnect it
pretty quick. I got some new cables that go from mini display port to
display port. Each 10' long so I'm not pulling on them when I pull the
rig out to take off the side. A while ago, it cut off, stayed off and
wouldn't come back on. It threw a wrench into my whole display setup
given it was the main monitor that went dead. While it was off anyway,
I switched the cables to the new ones. So far, it hasn't winked at me a
single time. I suspect it is either the cable or the little adapter
that goes from mini display port to HDMI. I swapped the adapter once
and the problem remained. I'm thinking cable. Time will tell tho. Odd
thing is, the cable came with the monitor and is a nice looking cable.
Braided and feels heavy duty. It would be a shame if it had a bad
connection or something internal broken from the factory.
