Hey!

Try starting firefox in the shell and paste the output you get. I had a
similar problem as firefox couldn't load some libs properly.

Hello,

I just reinstalled everything and Firefox takes about 3-5 mins to load
the first time. After that it is very fast. Does anyone have an idea as
of why this is happening? I tried deleting my ~/.mozilla directory but
that doesn't help. This is not the firefox binary ebuild/install but the
regular ebuild.

Thank you,
Gabriel

See if you have the line

127.0.0.1 localhost

in your /etc/hosts file. It might be a DNS lookup timeout issue.

I get no errors, just the usual : "No running windows found" msg.

Thanks, best regards,
Gabriel

yes, I have that, but I had that before in my previous installation. FF
seems slower
(at launch) at school where they have a proxy server. If my memory is
correct,
it seems to do that when I go from my home network to my school's network
and vice versa.

Have you tried re-emerging firefox? Or possibly do a revdep-rebuild to check for missing libraries?

Alternatively see if the binary package gives you the same issues?

David

Yes, but re-emerging did not help. I did install the binary client, and
it does not have this problem.
revdep-rebuild only wants gcc rebuild, it always does for some
reason...I'm re-emerging it as we speak.
