Hi,
Since Yahoo went out of portage, I switched to Kopete. Lately though, I
have noticed that when I open a new chat with someone that it takes
about 30 seconds for the window to open and that the CPU usage goes up
big time. This is what top shows for Kopete:
> 19343 dale 19 0 73192 41m 17m R 85.6 4.1 0:27.39 kopete
Here is the USE flags:

I don't remember upgrading or anything but it just started doing this.
It used to just pop right up and not use hardly any CPU usage.
As for what this is running on, AMD 2500+ with 1GB of ram. My hard
drive is pretty fast too. It's IDE but it gets 40 to 50 MBs/sec.
Gkrellm doesn't show any drive activity when this happens though. I
have reemerged Kopete with no change.
Anybody else notice this? Anybody have a clue why it would be doing this?
Thanks for any help or ideas.
Dale

I had a similar issue a while back, but it 'fixed itself', but Im unsure if
the bug was fixed or it was something I did. My analyisis pointed to it
doing a lot of work scanning/registering hotkeys or something.

Well, it is strange that it started all of a sudden. It only does it
when I open a chat window. It opens fine when I open the program
itself. Just thought it odd is all.
May see about going back one version. Maybe fixin something broke
something else.
Thanks.

I found out some more info. It only does it with one contact. I have
mine set up to save my history and I have chatted a good bit with this
person. If I open a chat with someone that I have very little history
with, it opens right up. No problem.
Could this be a bug of some kind you think? Should I file one somewhere?
Thanks

So, it seems like it takes some effort to read the history file?

It seems so. I also noticed that another friend that I chat with a good
bit does the same thing. The ones that have very little history pop
right up with little CPU usage and delay. I think we found what causes
it. Now we need someone to fix it.
How do you delete some of the history anyway? I can't find a way to do
that.
Oh, just found this, go to Settings then configure plugins. In the
history part, uncheck the 'show chat history in new chats' box. Then it
works fine. They all pop right up like it should.
Should I report this as a bug? Should I put it on the KDE list to see
what they say about it?

I don't use kopete much. So this is a guess from general KDE behaviour. ;-)
Look under ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete. See whether you can cand the history
files there.

LOL. That's where they are all right. Since I figured out how to keep
it from taking so long to open the window, I'll keep the history now.
At least I know how to now though. Still wonder if this is a bug or
something.
Thanks
