After the thread about depclean I thought that dep (emerge udept)
was a better way to clean up things, so I did a "dep -d".
It took a long time so I went away. When I came back, emerge dies
constantly with:
checking for C++ compiler default output file name... configure: error:
C++ compiler cannot create executables

or

gcc-config error: Could not run/locate "gcc"

Looking in the emerge.log, I saw that "dep -d" unmerged gcc-3.4.6-r1.
But I still have a C compiler:
"equery list gcc" gives
[ Searching for package 'gcc' in all categories among: ]
 * installed packages
[I--] [ -] sys-devel/gcc-4.1.1 (4.1)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/gcc-config-1.3.13-r4 (0)
[I--] [  ] x11-misc/gccmakedep-1.0.2 (0)

Please help me making my system sane again.
Would a simple "emerge =sys-devel/gcc-3.4.6-r1" do it?
