Hi,
I had nvidia-kernel-8178-r3 and nvidia-glx-8178. Now the latest
nvidia-kernel is 8174-r1 with ~x86 keyword. Do anybody knows where
nvidia-kernel-8178-r3 disappeared, and why. It is simply disappeared
from the repository, I don't find it in /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask.
TIA.

Hi,
I synced just now.

So yes, the ebuild is there, but
#equery l -p nvidia-kernel
[ Searching for package 'nvidia-kernel' in all categories among: ]
* installed packages
[I--] [M ] media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8178-r3 (0)
* Portage tree (/usr/portage)

So I must move somewhere. Portage suggested downgrade, because I
keyworded nvidia-kernel by version.
Anyway, I keyworded 1.0.8756. I will see what will happen.
But I don't see the reasons, why emerge doesn't see 1.0.8178-r3.
2 minutes later:
Sorry, I realized just now, that it is hardmasked. So the question has
changed. How can I figure out why it was hardmasked?
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask doesn't contain it.
TIA.

Something's strange with your portage tree. I just did the same after a
sync:
$ equery l -p nvidia-kernel
[ Searching for package 'nvidia-kernel' in all categories among: ]
* installed packages
[I--] [ ~] media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8756 (0)

[-P-] [ ~] media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8174-r1 (0)
[-P-] [ ~] media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8178-r3 (0)
Are you sure you don't have anything in /etc/portage/package.mask that
may be blocking?
Also, try "emerge --metadata" to rebuild the portage cache.

Hi,
I did emerge --metadata and eupdatedb, but nothing has changed. My
package.mask is empty. I can't understand why it is masked on my
machine. I'm on x86 and I looked at packages.gentoo.org, it isn't masked
there. My /etc/make.profile links to
../usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/x86/2005.0/.
What did it? In /etc/portage/ just one file, the package.keywords
contains nvidia-kernel.
TIA.

What exactly does /etc/portage/package.keywords contain? It should be:
media-video/nvidia-kernel ~x86

That's a little bit old but not deprecated. You might try upgrading, but I
really don't think that's your issue.

Hi,
It contains
=media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.8756 ~x86
=media-video/nvidia-glx-1.0.8756 ~x86
now. It contained the 8178-r3 version, because I needed it for some
purpose, but I don't want to upgrade at every testing ebuild. I just
wanted that ebuild, wait for stabilizing, and follow the stabil version
further.
TIA.

Hi,
I relink make.profile, did an emerge --metapackage && eupdatedb, but
nothing change.
Did I miss anything with profile update?
