Yes, you're right. You don't need to manually add entries
to fstab. udev/hal will do that on the fly for you.

And with Gnome, this works perfectly fine for me. I attach
my USB camera (mass storage device) and it gets automatically
mounted and a folder opens.

	gnome-base/gnome-2.12.3
