Hello,

I'm a little confused.

I just bought a Intel Xeon 64 Bits processors and now I'm confused what to install? Should I install the Gentoo IA64 or AMD64 version?

I know that Intel Xeon processors have EM64T support, which means normally full compatibility to AMD64?

Does somebody knows what would be better?

Best regards,

saf

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IA64

IA64 is Itanium CPUs I think - you should go with amd64.

Cheers

But Xeon is Itanium's substitute... isn't?

Not really. em64t is almost identical to amd64 and very different from ia64.

Nope. Itanium and Xeon are developed in parallel. Where Xeon is based off of desktop CPU architecture (x86, AMD64, et al) the Itanium (aka Itanic due to slow uptake) is a 64bit CPU completely from scratch.
