The screen blanking can be configured in xorg.conf, using something like:
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "BlankTime" "0"
Option "SuspendTime" "0"
Option "OffTime" "0"
Option "StandbyTime" "0"
EndSection
You can configure it the way you need it to be.
Now, about the shutdown, maybe overheat?! Dunno, we need more info in
order to help you with this.
