I restarted the computer several times until the screen displayed the bootup screen. I then entered the BIOS, changed all th= e configuration related to the screen (dual screen detection, automatic brightness,...), and then restarted. After restarting a few times and checking that the screen always functioned properly I entered the BIOS agai= n and reverted back all changes. Now the screen is working properly. I don't know what the hell happened. Thanks everybody for your help. Does = your Gentoo system boot into X, or to a console?

Have you tried plug= ging in an external monitor to see what is displayed there?

This is solved now... I restarted the computer s= everal times until the screen displayed the bootup screen. I then entered t= he BIOS, changed all the configuration related to the screen (dual screen d= etection, automatic brightness,...), and then restarted. After restarting a= few times and checking that the screen always functioned properly I entere= d the BIOS again and reverted back all changes. Now the screen is working p= roperly. I don't know what the hell happened.

Thanks everybody for your help.

Best regards
