Here are the notes I've made for the future : NVidia vs Nouveau : NVidia : (1) use non-Nouveau kernel ; (2) emerge with 'linux' symlink pointing to current kernel ; (3) 'nvidia-eg.conf' must be in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ cont : Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "nvidia" Option "TripleBuffer" "True" Option "NoLogo" "True" Option "DynamicTwinView" "False" EndSection (4) 'eselect opengl set nvidia'. Nouveau : (1) 'emerge xf86-video-nouveau' ; (2) use Nouveau kernel : Driver -> Graphics -> <*>DirectRenderingMgr [Y] <*>NouveauCards [Y] ; (3) move 'nvidia-eg.conf' out of /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ ; (4) add '10nouveau.conf' to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ containing : Section "Device" Identifier "Card0" Driver "nouveau" EndSection ; (5) 'eselect opengl set xorg-x11'.
